Recycle. Reuse. Reduce. Refill.
At WORMSER GROUP, we understand the importance of finding sustainable packaging solutions that meet our brand partners’ goals. However, sustainability can mean something different to each of our customers. Some want 100% sustainable packaging solutions with no compromise. Others want to start slow and better understand the business impact.
Wormser’s approach is to offer a menu of sustainable choices that can be tailored to your specific needs. Ultimately, what’s most important is how sustainability fits into your Brand DNA.
We understand that this topic can quickly become confusing and overwhelming. WORMSER GROUP is here to help. Tell us what's important to your brand and we can work together on a strategy.
Some key insights to consider when incorporating sustainable packaging into your product launch:
Utilize less packaging as it’s undoubtedly the quickest, fastest approach in reducing our environmental footprint.
Develop primary packaging with eco-friendly materials. See below for some helpful definitions.
Develop secondary packaging with recycled materials including PCR Paper (a portion recycled material), Kraft Paper (portion made from wood pulp), Pulp Paper (portion made of wood, fiber, recycled paper and rags) and many others (e.g. Sugar Cane, Hemp).
Create finishes and decoration with eco-friendly materials such as soy based inks and bio-degradable laminates and foils.
Review warehouse and shipping efficiencies including condensed palette sizes, reduction of weight, use of recycled corrugate and improved pack-out for reduced damages.
Sustainable Solutions
PCR Plastic: Used packaging gathered, sorted, & processed into resin pellets. Less water and energy required to produce than virgin resin and reduces the need for fossil fuels. PCR can also be recycled. However, recycling the same piece of plastic continuously can produce compromised parts. Available with HDPE, PET and PP.
Ocean Bound Plastic: Collects plastic in the oceans, inflows, coastlines and on uncontrolled landfills. Certified food grade and available with PET, PP, HDPE, and LDPE.
Refillable: Having 100% recyclable materials in your products isn’t always possible, especially when taking pumps, springs, actuators, and compatibility issues into consideration. Refillable packaging options are an excellent way to achieve sustainability without sacrificing efficacy and aesthetics.
Mono Material: Made from 100% of the same raw material: polyethylene (PE). This metal-free packaging solution allows for easy recyclability to help reuse and reduce plastic waste. By using only one raw material (PE), it allows for easy disposal, collection and recycling. Mono-Material packaging is also available in ethanol extracted from sugarcane, a renewable raw material known as Green Polyethylene (PE).
Bio-Resins: Eco-friendly, bio-resins are derived from natural plant, vegetable and biological sources. This means they are non-toxic, renewable and water based (vs. solvent). Some examples are corn, soybean, sugar cane, beets and potatoes.
Aluminum: Aluminum is 100% recyclable and can be melted and recycled multiple times without changing its natural properties.
Glass: Glass is 100% recyclable. PCR Glass offers 30-50% of recycled glass made from the recycled glass cullet. Consider the number of glass bottles recycled every year around the world.
Compostable: Uses additives with existing plastic manufacturing infrastructure, and serves as a sustainable alternative to polluting and petroleum-based packaging and other rigid goods. Inspired by nature, we use a biological fermentation process, providing a low carbon solution to major brands looking for green, sustainable plastic alternatives.
